Go to the new Stolen Bike Registry at

click=>http://stolen.bikechicago.info<=click

(If a search has landed you here please use the "find" feature of your browser to locate the bike by model on this page)

The idea is hopefully simple:

You post all relevant info, and you increase your chances of getting your bike back in three ways:

1) Someone sees your blue cannondale and suspects it's stolen. They google "blue cannondale stolen chicago" and *poof* up pops this page.

2) Your stolen bike report propogates (with our help) to all the major Chicago bike-related e-mail lists. Someone spots your blue cannondale, calls a friend who has quick i-net access, asks them to pull up bikechicago.info (or google "stolen bike chicago" or similar), click on "Chicago Stolen Bike Registry", and get them whatever info they need to contact the owner or convince the police to hold the bike.

3) You offer the opportunity to others to learn from your experience, and good karma will help send your bike back to you.

Important: See Mr Bike's tips on IDing your bike before it gets stolen!

Hi. I just wanted to let you know that I recovered my bike and the Chicago Stolen Bike registry played a major role. I posted the story on craigslist:

http://chicago.craigslist.org/bik/90396703.html

One thing I didn't mention was that the eBay seller was initially skeptical that it was mine, but he looked at the stolen bike registry and saw my listing. So thanks for this wonderful service. Evan

It was originally a Fuji VA Lite... one of the older ones, but ithad a new paint job from last summer so its totally white exceptfor some camoflauge duct tape (probably removed by now). Youcan't even read the serial number off the bottom of it and Inever put the tin label back on.

Black "Edge" cranksets

Mavic open pro wheel in the front with a Paul Mallard (sp?) hub (it also says D. Vogt in sharpie on the rim), Surly flip-flop in the back with a Soma cog on one sideand a Dura-Ace one on the other. Both wheels have gray trimmed Serfas tires. The bottom bracket is a Shimano (not Ultegra orDura-Ace). It

Pyramid plastic toe clips and straps with blackmtn bike pedals.

Ritchey-Logic headset.

There is a front-brake on the rider's left handle.

What was the bike locked to:

Bike rack outside of Jewel-Osco

General condition of bike:

It was a well cared-for track bike;

There are a couple of things someone might bring it into a shop for:

- the handlebar is aluminum and has a bent on the rider's right side from an accident.

- the handlebar tape is totally worn and needs to be replaced the original color is a gray, and the bars are profile design.

- the headset is loose. it would need to be tightened for sure in a few weeks if its at all ridden often.

- the wheels need to be trued, especially the back.

- the saddle lost its liner and is just hard plastic now.
