First Friday Ride Open to Anyone with a Bike Pilsen/Little Village- A monthly bicycle ride which tours Pilsen, Little Village, and surrounding areas, is entering its third year of speading bicycle cheer throughout the near southwest side of Chicago. According to the sponsors, the Pilsen/Little Village Bicycle Alliance, this ride primarily serves to connect the cycling community across age, culture, and language differences while increasing the visibility of cycling as transportation worthy of consideration in all levels of transit policy and planning. But it is also a fun way to meet others and discover hidden gems and great routes in our diverse and historically interesting community. Riders will meet at 7 P.M. at Tenochtitlan Plaza, which is at the intersection of 18th Street, Blue Island, and Loomis, and push off at 7:30. The ride takes place all months, in all weather. The ride was conceived by residents of Pilsen and Little Village as a way to build community among local cyclists. A leaderless, democratic approach is used to determine the route. Participants are welcome to create a route map and present it to the crowd for a vote. The ride will generally be about 8-10 miles in length, and will end with an optional restaurant outing close to the start. Participation is free.
